Charleston Music Fest (CMF) at the College of Charleston School of the Arts will complete its 2014-15 season with the Ellipsis Trio on Thursday, April 23, 2015. The piano trio, hailing from Cambridge, MA, includes violinist Amanda Wang, cellist Patrick Owen and pianist Konstantinos Papadakis.
For this performance, the ensemble has prepared a program of Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio (1914), Charles Ives’ Piano Trio (1909-10), and Franz Schubert’s D.28 Sonatensatz (1827).
Since its inception in January 2013, Ellipsis Trio has been the recipient of the Rosenbloom Foundation Career Grant and completed two residencies at Avaloch Farm Music Institute. In recent months, Ellipsis Trio has worked with composers John Harbison and Tod Machover on their works for piano trio and commissioned new piano trios from composer D.J. Sparr (premiered April 2014) and Igor Iwanek.
The Trio is a guest performer of Rockport Music Festival, Grove Music Festival, and was featured at the St. Botolph Club as an honorary guest last year. In the summer of 2014, Ellipsis Trio was in residence at the Archanes Summer Music Academy in Greece.
The Trio has recently performed with violists Marcus Thompson and Krystalia Gaetanos. Its members have collaborated individually with esteemed artists such as Ronald Thomas, Peter Zazofsky, Lynn Chang, Max Levinson, Richard Stoltzman, and Augustin Dumay. Ellipsis performs regularly in the Boston region and hosts an ongoing series called “The American Experiment” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology featuring American composers or American-inspired music.
