Well, obviously Bach and Radiohead didn’t perform together in reality, but the collaborative performance “Between the Lines” by students. alumni and special guests offered a unique repertoire of classical and popular music to a packed audience last night. Opening with Claude Debussy’s Arabesque No. 1, with a mix of favorites by British rock band, Radiohead, and J.S. Bach’s Ciaccona for solo violin, “Between the Lines” left a memorable mark on the audience. Luckily, for those who missed Wednesday night’s performance, tickets are still available for Friday’s performance.
Witness collaboration at its finest with Entropy Ensemble, consisting of Music alumni Andrew Walker, piano; Javier Orman, violin; Ben Wells, stand-up bass; Lonnie Root, cello; Stuart White, percussion; (artistically advised by Music Professor Julia Harlow). Guest pianist and NPR personality Christopher O’Riley was simply mind-blowing; he also performed a concert of Schumann works at Thursday’s International Piano Series concert. Other fine components of the School of the Arts shined in the multimedia event: Annex Dance Company, Theatre alumna Lauren Duffie (lighting designer), Music alumnus Corey Webb (stage manager), Choral students and alums, and Arts Management students in the Fundraising and Events Creation class.
Computer Science students created animated work in conjunction with the performance theme. The Computing in the Arts program (CITA), newly added to the academic curriculum, blends art and technology and is offered by the Department of Computer Science in conjunction with SOTA. The department was a generous sponsor of the event.
Did we mention that all patrons received a gift certificate to A Stuart Laurence Salon? No, not just for one haircut but for A YEAR OF FREE HAIRCUTS!
Part of the proceeds will benefit Carolina Studios and the School of the Arts.
