Hsing-Chwen Hsin received her early musical training in Taiwan. She left the country at age 13 to attend the Yehudi Menuhin School in England and later, the Royal College of Music in London. She further studied in the United States at UCLA and SUNY Stony Brook gaining MFA and DMA degrees, respectively. Among her teachers were Louis Kentner, Simon Nicholls, Vlado Perlemuter, Kendall Taylor, Andras Schiff, Aube Tzerko and Gilbert Kalish. She is a Professor of the Institute of Music, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, which she directed in 2004-2008 and now chairs the graduate performance program. In 2005 she formed the renowned ChiaoTa Chamber Ensemble with her colleagues.

Miss Hsin has performed throughout England since an early age. She has also given numerous performances in Europe and America. At 15 she appeared as a soloist in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Wigmore Hall in London. At 17, she was invited to give a charity recital by the Archbishop of York in his Palace. That same year, she performed as a duo with Yehudi Menuhin.  Aside from her soloist career, Miss Hsin frequently collaborates with internationally renowned instrumentalists. Among these artists are violinist Cho-Liang Lin, Qian Zhou and Nai-Yuan Hu; violist Hsin-Yun Huang; French violinist Christophe Boulier, with whom she gave a debut at New York’s 92nd St. Y, and the American violinist James Buswell and cellist Gary Hoffman.

In recent years she has performed in recitals in Taiwan, the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore; and in concertos performances with major orchestras in Taiwan, as well as England’s Guildhall String Ensemble, China’s Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and America’s Santa Barbara Symphony. Her 1996 recording of Mozart, Ravel and Chopin published by Decca Records of Taiwan has won her critical acclaim and resulted in the selection of the Editor’s Choice in the All Music Magazine. Her most recent set of recordings published by NCTU Press in 2006 includes the pianist’s own essay on the program From Bach to Mozart to Chopin: a Retrospective Chopin Appoach.
