The City Gallery at Waterfront Park is currently accepting applications for gallery interns for the 2010 summer. This is a great opportunity for students at any level to gain experience in a professional gallery setting. Summer interns get to be a part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival’s visual arts exhibit, Contemporary Charleston: Influence as well as Now Showing: Works by Charlie Bidwell and Samantha Magowan.
Applicants with backgrounds in studio art, arts management, and art history are preferred. The City Gallery at Waterfront Park will award 3 credit hours and a $500 stipend for 120 hours of work for 2 interns this summer. Responsibilities will include: acting as a gallery docent, aiding in the installation and de-installation of works, helping to coordinate and supervise special events in the gallery, and assisting the Gallery Coordinator with special projects as needed. Even though the internship credit only requires 120 hours, the gallery internship dates range from the first week of May through the end of July.
The City Gallery at Waterfront Park is a venue for artwork that is new, vital, and innovative–with a focus on broadening the Charleston art outlook. The gallery provides a contemporary visual arts center to exhibit the work of local, regional, national, and international professional artists. Each year, the gallery produces six to eight exhibitions, along with artist’s lectures and other educational programs.
