SGA Remembers Lost Firefighters

By Executive Order of the President of the Student Government Association and on behalf of the Student Body of the College of Charleston, the SGA extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the nine Charleston firefighters who lost their lives last night. In this loss, the effect is felt throughout both the city and collegiate communities.

About 7:00pm Monday night, fire broke out in the Sofa Superstore in West Ashley. On-lookers stated that the blaze “rolled through it like a fireball.” City of Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley stated this morning that “Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties.” The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but arson is not suspected.

We extend our condolences, on behalf of the Student Body, to those courageous firefighters, their friends and families.
