During the height of the pandemic, Americans wrestled with the options of staying in a hotel versus an Airbnb. College of Charleston School of Business professors Steve Litvin and Daniel Guttentag analyzed these trends in their newest research paper.
“To Airbnb or not to Airbnb: Does Airbnb feel safer than hotels during a pandemic?” was published in the International Journal of Hospitality and Management, an ABDC A* journal. The paper investigated the comparative levels of concern that Americans felt towards staying in Airbnbs and hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Litvin and Guttentag took data from the surveying of nearly 9500 Americans between March 2020 and July 2021. The pair found that the two options had similar levels of concern, despite Airbnb’s quicker economic recovery.
