The School of Business is proud to recognize Iris Junglas, professor and Noah T. Leask Distinguished Chair in Information Management and Innovation, for her outstanding leadership as editor-in-chief of MIS Quarterly Executive.

During her three-year tenure, she has guided the journal through a period of innovation and growth, leaving a lasting impact on both the publication and the field of information systems. Here are some highlights from her editorial legacy:

  • Expanding the Journal’s Reach: Under her leadership, the journal introduced new genres, including “MISQE Insight” for interviews and essays, and the “SIM” genre to strengthen industry partnerships.
  • Championing Open Access: With support from AIS, the journal is now open access, increasing its visibility and accessibility to practitioners and researchers worldwide.
  • Digital Engagement: Established a LinkedIn presence for the journal, growing its following to over 1,900 members.
  • Editorial Excellence: The journal won the “Best IS Publication of the Year Award” twice during her tenure, marking four wins in the past decade.
  • Practice-Oriented Research: She established a new motto for the journal—“Where Research Shapes and is Shaped by Practice”—and shifted the target audience from IT executives to digital leaders, reflecting the evolving landscape of IT-enabled initiatives.
  • Thought Leadership: She authored 12 editorials on topics ranging from writing high-quality practice-oriented research to the impact of generative AI on editorial processes and doctoral education.
  • Special Issues: The journal published five special issues in three years, covering topics such as technology governance, low-code/no-code transformation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence for societal impact.
  • Financial Stewardship: She maintained a healthy budget for the journal, ensuring resources for future innovation.

As Iris passes the reins to the next editor-in-chief, her vision for elevating practice-oriented research and fostering collaboration between academia and industry continues to inspire.
