The College of Charleston School of Business recently hosted serial entrepreneur, investor, and speaker Danielle Michel for a powerful session that left students inspired and energized. Drawing from her experience as a multi-industry founder and CEO, Michel offered students her perspective on what it takes to build a meaningful career and life as an entrepreneur.

Students had the opportunity to engage with Michel and hear directly about her path from launching fitness studios to leading ventures in real estate, technology, and tax strategy. Her session centered around a key concept she calls “Internal Driving Factors,” or IDF, the unique personal motivations that shape how individuals make decisions and pursue goals. Michel emphasized that identifying your IDF is essential for creating a life and career that feels meaningful.

As the session unfolded, Michel continually returned to the importance of leading with authenticity. She encouraged students to stay grounded in their values and to listen closely when something feels misaligned. Whether in business or life, she explained, decisions made without personal alignment often lead to burnout or dissatisfaction. Long-term success, she argued, is built not only on strategy, but on self-awareness and integrity.

Finally, she emphasized the role of community in achieving personal and professional goals. “If your dreams sound too big when you tell them, you’re telling the wrong people,” she said, urging students to audit their inner circles and intentionally surround themselves with people who challenge and uplift them.

Michel left students with a clear framework for turning ideas into action: define your vision, set your non-negotiables, build your personal ecosystem, and create small wins every day. Several students noted they planned to begin using her IDF worksheet, a tool she created to help individuals clarify their purpose and goals, as a guide for staying grounded and focused.

Michel’s visit served as a reminder that success is not just about ambition. It is about alignment. By encouraging students to lead with purpose, stay true to their values, and build the right community around them, she left them with tools to navigate not just their careers, but their lives.
