2025 Distinguished Teaching Award
Purushottam Meena, Ph.D.
Purushottam Meena, associate professor of Supply Chain Management, joined the College of Charleston’s Department of Supply Chain and Information Management in fall 2021. Since then, he has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including in the MBA program. Despite the rigor of his classes, Meena consistently earns top marks in student evaluations, with many offering high praise in written feedback. His innovative teaching style bridges theory and real-world application in ways that both challenge and inspire students. As one student noted: “Even in a large class, Dr. Meena makes every student feel included and valued. His ability to simplify complex concepts is remarkable.”
2025 Distinguished Service Award
Lancie Affonso, MS, MBA, MIS
Affonso is more than a mentor—students often describe him as a trusted friend and lifelong advocate, supporting them throughout their college journey. This year marks the 10th anniversary of his leadership with the Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community (ELLC), where he has mentored more than 50 students. In addition to his work with ELLC, Affonso serves as a faculty mentor for student research and clubs, enriching both the academic and personal development of those he teaches.
2025 Distinguished Research Award
Xiaohu Guo, Ph.D.
Xiaohu Guo joined the College of Charleston’s Department of Finance in 2021 and has made a remarkable impact in a short period of time. In less than four years, he has published impressive high-quality research articles, including two in A* journals and one in an A journal. His research interests include corporate finance, real estate, market microstructure, gender equality, and investment. His most recent A* publication, “Gender and Executive Job Mobility: Career Prospects for Executives Displaced by Acquisitions,” appeared in the
Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, one of the
Financial Times’ Top 50 journals. Guo has also presented his work at leading international conferences and earned a “Best Paper” award at the Annual Boca Corporate Finance and Governance Conference. In 2021, he received the prestigious RRBM Responsible Research in Business and Management Award. In addition to his research excellence, he consistently receives positive student evaluations, serves as a regular peer reviewer for top journals in his field, and actively engages with student clubs and activities.
2025 Howard F. Rudd, Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award for Service Leadership
Weishen Wang, Ph.D.
Established in 2013 in honor of founding Dean Howard Rudd to recognize outstanding, high-performing business school professors who lead by example and advance the mission and global vision of the School of Business.
Weishen Wang has significantly contributed to the School of Business and the College of Charleston. As chair of the Department of Finance since 2015, Wang has increased enrollment, raised student funding, and led the creation of a new minor and major. He has served on several committees, including Continuing Education, Assessment of Institutional Effectiveness, and the Salary Study Workforce Committee. Wang introduced the Investment Foundations Program, helping many finance majors pass the CFA Level I exam. He is a key member of the deans, chairs, and directors’ leadership team, advocating for students, faculty, staff, and the school.
In the community, Wang serves on the South Carolina Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Advisory Committee and the SC Commission for Minority Affairs since 2022. He attends all meetings, provides updates on AAPI communities, and shares state resources. As Chair of the Board of Directors for the Charleston Chinese Academy since 2021, Wang helped establish it as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, ensuring compliance with tax and labor laws, and advising on program offerings.
