The College of Charleston School of Business is thrilled to announce its upcoming human resources boot camp course. This course offers a thorough introduction to the field, catering to both newcomers and seasoned HR professionals seeking a refresher.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Essentials of Human Resources two-day in-person boot camp will take place July 18–19, 2024, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Riley Center at 176 Lockwood Blvd. Lunch will be provided.

The College of Charleston was recently recognized as one of the top 10 education providers for enrollments in the SHRM Essentials of HR courses. In a field with more than 270 education partners delivering the SHRM Essentials course annually, attaining a place in the top 10 in the nation is a testament to the program’s success.

“At the College of Charleston School of Business, we are committed to providing practical and impactful educational experiences. Our Essentials of HR boot camp is one example of that commitment,” says Michelle Futrell, executive director of professional and continuing education at the College of Charleston School of Business.

Karen A. Clark SPHR, SHRM-SCP, will lead the boot camp. Clark is an experienced consultant, trainer, manager, business developer and executive in human resources with significant expertise in employee benefits and training. During her career, she has helped employers in various industries remain competitive and retain talent through total rewards programs that fit with their cultures and budgets and produced measurable, sustainable results.

Professionals who might benefit from the upcoming boot camp include:

  • New and junior HR practitioners who need to increase their knowledge base
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential-holders looking to recertify and earn professional development credits (PDCs)
  • Small business owners or office managers who perform HR functions for their companies
  • Business managers who want to learn basic HR best practices to help avoid costly litigation

Students will explore crucial HR topics, including talent acquisition, performance management, compensation and employment law. The successful completion of the course awards 12 PDCs.
