Make the pledge to go tech-free
We are excited to announce Unplugged: Fall Edition is November 11th, 2024! Keep your eye out for additional Unplugged pop-up events. However, to get this on your radar for planning, we’re sending this challenge now. Please consider participating!
WHY?
American adults:
• Spend >11 hours interacting with media (Nielsen, 2023)
• Spend 93% of their time indoors (EPA, 2023)
• Half experience loneliness (U.S. Surgeon General report, 2023)
• 15-24 year-olds: time spent in person with friends is down by ~70% over almost two decades (U.S. Surgeon General report, 2023)
HOWEVER… Reductions in smartphone usage (even one hour per day) can improve mental health (Brailovskaia et al., 2023)
WHAT?
CofC aims to support our community in helping to unplug (aka – limit technology such as smartphones, computers, even projectors) the week of November 11th. We welcome leaders across campus to take on the challenge to run a tech-free meeting/class. Concerned about making your entire session tech-free? Consider making a portion of your session tech-free.
HOW?
Nervous implementing tech-free or tech-light sessions? Feel free to peruse this Tech-Free Class resource by the [Dis]Connect Collective.
