Get to Know Conner

What do you like most about your job?

I could go on all day about the different things I enjoy about my position, but the one that stands out to me the most is the people. As an athlete growing up, I learned early the value of a strong team. My team in the graduate department has been essential for me growing into this role and higher education in general. Being new to higher education and only a Charleston resident for a little under two years, I have had a lot to learn and continue to do so. The mentorship and patience of my team members has kept me afloat and been an encouraging part of my work at the college thus far.

What personal and/or professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

In 2022, I graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice with a plan to become an attorney. I am most proud of my tenacity to find a role outside of what I had planned for so long to be my career. Switching my career path was the scariest thing I have ever done and came with a lot of uncertainty. Overcoming that and finding a home here at the College of Charleston is something that I will be forever proud of. Change is hard, but more often than not, if you’re patient, it leads to bigger and better things.

What is something your campus colleagues would be surprised to know about you?

If you name a movie, there is a good chance I’ve seen it. In undergrad my roommates and I made an unspoken pact to watch a movie nearly every night before bed. I’d estimate we watched hundreds of movies together over a three-year period. I’m not sure if it’s something I am particularly proud of, there were probably better ways to be spending our time, but on the bright side I can recommend a good movie to just about anyone.

What’s your favorite Lowcountry restaurant?

To me, nothing compares to The Wild Olive on John’s Island. The food, service and ambiance are by far the most enjoyable experience I’ve had dining in the lowcountry.
