AI in the Room

This week, Carrie and I attended AACSB ICAM in Atlanta. It’s always a busy couple of days with a lot of learning and networking. This year, in every session, AI was a consistent topic of conversation, from how we can use it to help with our Societal Impact Goals to how it can help with critical thinking and automating mundane tasks. There’s no clear consensus on how the next few years will unfold, but there’s universal agreement that it will be a disruptor.

There are some obvious ways it will be used, such as:

  • Designing new courses and programs
  • Improving existing curricula
  • Generating discussion materials
  • Advising
  • Translating lecture videos

There’s even a special report:

Building Future-Ready Business Schools With Generative AI

While we are focused on short-term gains, AI is a long-term technology. It’s too early to predict the future, and we forget that we’ve been exploring this idea for almost 100 years. But what makes it harder to predict is that AI is just one part of a much larger group of technologies, including connected IOT and Biotech. For the brave, it will be business reimagined.

For education, it will be education reimagined. Will we reimagine, or will someone reimagine for us?

How are we willing to be disrupted and reimagine learning? Will we focus on what used to be or create what will be? Will we help students navigate these new frontiers? Will we navigate them ourselves?

The cool thing about events like ICAM is we realize that we are not in this alone. We are all learning – together.

I’m looking forward to the conversation.

YOU make a difference!

Ponder this with me …

Hi Paul. It sounds like you and Carrie attended an amazing conference. Is there a plan for you all to convey any/all of what you learned in all-faculty meetings or otherwise?
