Fun is Good and W. Night Train Veeck ’08, owner of several pro- and minor-league teams, will be presenting a 90-minute interactive session about careers in sports, breaking rules, making mistakes – and the secret to coming out on top! “Careers in Sports: How to Play and Win…Personally and Professionally,” will take place on Friday, March 22 from 9:15-10:45 AM in Stern Ballroom and is open to all students and interested faculty and staff. This event is part of the MBA program’s professional development program and is open to all students and interested faculty and staff. Seating is limited, so students must register in Handshake.
Night Train, the fourth generation of Veecks to work in baseball, is a seasoned sports marketing executive and proud 2008 alumnus of the College of Charleston School of Business. With 20+ years of experience in professional sports, his expertise lies in implementing fan engagement strategies for baseball, cricket, and soccer, both in the US and internationally. “Train” is a current owner of Larne FC, a Northern Irish first division soccer club, and he also leads day-to-day operations for the Joliet Slammers outside of Chicago.
During this 90 minute interactive session, students can expect to learn:
- What life is really like working in sports
- The business of managing teams
- Finding your creativity and innovative spirit
- Building strong partnerships
- Thriving in times of inevitable change
“Careers in Sports: How to Win…Personally and Professionally” is generously sponsored by Denny’s FUNd, honoring the late CofC Career Center director, Denny Ciganovic. Coffee and breakfast will be served to students. Talk about knocking it out of the park!
