Accepting Nominations – Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award
Each year, the Black History Intercollegiate Consortium (BHIC) hosts a program celebrating the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. During this event, five deserving individuals (one from each participating college/university) receives the MLK, Jr. Humanitarian Award. Faculty, staff, and community members who have demonstrated a commitment to racial equity and/or social justice on or off the College of Charleston campus are eligible for the award. Last year’s awardee was Professor Emerita Joy Vandervort-Cobb.
Nominations will be accepted through November 20, 2023.
The selected nominee will be notified by November 27, 2023. The award will be given during BHIC’s MLK Program on Tuesday January 16, 2024 at Trident Technical College – Thornley (main) campus, from 6:30pm-8:00pm.
Both the nominator and the awardee will have speaking roles during the program. The nominator will be asked to introduce the recipient, and the awardee will give remarks upon receiving their award.
About BHIC: BHIC is comprised of the College of Charleston, the Medical University of South Carolina, Trident Technical College, The Citadel, and Charleston Southern University. The consortium was created over 30 years ago to promote harmony among the five member institutions.
