CETL Offers Teaching Peer Review
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
Are you looking for more resources to help you improve your teaching? A chance to get feedback on classroom innovations you are trying? An external peer review that you can include in packets for major reviews, including tenure and promotion? Please consider having a CETL Peer Review Partner observe your class!
The CETL Peer Review program is the practice of instructors observing and providing critical feedback on the teaching practices of other instructors, using the scholarship of teaching and learning, as an art and science for the purpose of reflection, improvement, and/or evaluation. Completely voluntary and confidential, Peer Review supports instructors across rank and discipline and offers faculty a formative assessment for their reflection.
Teaching at CofC is evaluated for various reasons, including promotion and tenure, contract renewal, and merit pay. Faculty need various inputs beyond student evaluations to support their continued growth and development in teaching.
Although I am the official peer review partner for the school, there are times when feedback from someone less familiar with our disciplines (as students often are) can be incredibly valuable! Peer review partners can provide observations for any faculty in any school, so check out the CETL Hub to see our 2024-2025 CETL Peer Review Partners.
Peer review is supportive, providing faculty with in-depth diagnostic feedback that can inform the instructor’s teaching. It can also be used to reflect on how the individual’s instruction reflects department and curricular goals.
To participate, please reach out to me (maynardna@cofc.edu) or Margaret Hagood (hagoodm@cofc.edu) via email, or submit your request via MS Forms.
