AI: One way I am using it…
If you see me this week, you may notice a bandage on my finger. It’s the result of a classic cooking injury—slicing a digit while cutting a potato. This incident has led me to explore the use of AI technologies, particularly speech-to-text, which I had been hesitant to try until now.
I’ve always known that dictation was an available tool, but I never had a compelling reason to use it. Typically, I type very quickly, so I didn’t see the necessity. However, with my finger bandaged and my typing speed significantly reduced, I’ve decided to seize this opportunity to develop new skills using the tools and technologies at our disposal.
To write this message, I used Windows’ dictation feature by pressing the Windows button and the letter H simultaneously. This activated the dictation function on my screen. I’m composing this post through dictation and it is full of grammatical errors. Next, I will use Copilot to edit the text. Although it feels a bit awkward, it will be easy to correct dictation errors using AI. I believe I will become more comfortable with it over the next few weeks.
In recent conversations, I’ve discovered fascinating ways that others are incorporating AI into their workflows—ways I hadn’t even considered. This brings me to a suggestion: if you find yourself using AI in a novel way, please share it. Write a Pulse post to share your insights with our peers or make a quick note on our SB Teams page. We have an AI committee, and sharing what they are learning is also part of their charge. AI is a rapidly evolving field, and we can all learn more quickly by exchanging tips and ideas with each other.
Let’s embrace this learning journey together and unlock the potential of AI.

I was surprised when a student worker said they used AI to build a meal plan and shopping list. For people who find meal planning a chore, maybe it could improve their mood and save them time?
