Accounting Professors Awarded Outstanding Case at AMA/IMA Teaching Case Conference
Congratulations to Kimberly Tribou and Mike Braswell on winning best paper award at the American Accounting Association/IMA Teaching Case Conference for Lucy’s Choice: An Exercise to Incremental Analysis.
The conference was organized jointly by the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association and the Institute of Management Accountants, which publishes the Issues of Management Accountants Educational Case Journal. Conference participants shared innovative case studies that could be used in undergraduate and graduate managerial and cost accounting courses.
In the case study, the protagonist (Lucy) must choose whether to accept a job offer. Lucy’s Choice illustrates incremental analysis, a decision-making framework that is used to compare the relevant financial and non-financial costs and benefits of business decision alternatives. The case was based on a classroom activity that Kim uses in her managerial accounting classes based on her experience choosing between two jobs. Conference participants praised the case for its relevance to student audiences and applicability in a variety of course settings.
