Mentoring Matters

The College of Charleston Multicultural Student Programs & Services offers Mentoring Matters.

This year, 8 students with a major in the School of Business have applied to participate. We’re hoping to have each of those 8 mentored by a School of Business faculty or staff member. So far, we have 5 faculty applications to participate as mentors; that means we need 3 more volunteer mentors.

I participated last year, and met regularly with my mentee throughout the year. We engaged in some advising, but also discussed challenges with navigating the first year, her attempts to get involved in student government, and plans for study abroad (amongst other things). I also identified an upper-class student to serve as a peer mentor to her.

It was a meaningful experience. If you are thinking about signing-up this year, then I hope I have convinced you to do it. Please fill out the Mentor Information Sheet if you are interested in participating this year.
