We Just Do It
Last Friday at the Metro Chamber’s Board orientation, I met with several people from industry, and they all had a positive experience with the School of Business to share. Then, at the start of the week, I met with Southern Business Deans, where we received the Societal Impact Award for ImpactX. During my presentation, I talked about our excellent community engagement, and a dean in the audience started bragging about our Investment Symposium. Other deans came up afterward and shared their experiences with CofC (again positive). Then, yesterday, I attended the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Economic Outlook Conference and was impressed by Mark Witte’s presentation (pictured above). It was insightful, engaging, and entertaining.
As I drove back to the office, I reflected on how in the School of Business, we just do the work, and we often take it for granted. I also chuckled as I thought, “if it isn’t posted to social media, did it really happen?”
As “the new guy,” I am seeing firsthand the excellent work you do and the impact you make, and I want the world to know. The first paragraph is simply what I saw since my last Pulse post. When I think about what I’ve seen over the past four months, from excellent pedagogy to world-class research to exemplary service, it is hard to wrap my head around it. And I already know I’ll see so much more in the coming months.
I’m committed to doing a better job of sharing our story and not simply taking it for granted. I hope you will do the same.
YOU make a difference!

Thank you for the kind words. I couldn’t have done it without the help of the Chamber and the whole Economic Outlook Board. Likewise, I appreciate you and the rest of the CofC attendees taking the time to come out for the conference!
