Spring 2021 Registration Entry Dates

Registration for Spring 2021 begins on Thursday, November 5, 2020 by assigned entry date for all currently enrolled students. Registration takes place on the Registration Tools channel in MyCharleston on the Academic Services tab.

The registration entry date schedule is based on earned hours.  This does not include the hours in which you are currently enrolled.

Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on the designated dates listed below.

Spring 2021 Registration Entry Dates

  • Thursday, November 5: 90-122+ earned hours
  • Monday, November 9: 80-89 earned hours
  • Tuesday, November 10: 70-79 earned hours
  • Wednesday, November 11: 60-69 earned hours
  • Friday, November 13: 50-59 earned hours
  • Monday, November 16: 40-49 earned hours
  • Tuesday, November 17: 30-39 earned hours
  • Wednesday, November 18: 20-29 earned hours
  • Thursday, November 19: 1-19 earned hours
  • Friday, November 20: 0 earned hours

Just a quick reminder that the last day to withdraw “W” from full semester courses is Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 11:59 pm (EST).  Students may withdraw from a course in Banner Self Service in MyCharleston (which opens at 8:00 am (EST) each day).  Instructions for withdrawing can be found on the Help and Training tab in MyCharleston on the Office of the Registrar Student Resources channel.

For all course withdrawals, you will receive an email confirmation to your college-issued email account from the email address coursenotifications@cofc.edu.  Your instructor will also receive a copy.

A withdrawal “W” is not a grade. A “W” indicates that a course was started but not completed.  If you are unsure about withdrawing from a course, please consult with your instructor and/or advisor.

Students should make sure to resolve any registration holds on their record prior to the last day to withdraw.  A hold can prevent you from being able to withdraw from a class.  To find out if you have a hold, login to MyCharleston.  Click on the Academic Services tab and look for the Registration Tools channel.  Click on Registration status.  Only the department who placed the hold can remove the hold from your account.   Visit this webpage for more information on hold types:  https://registrar.cofc.edu/courses/registration-holds-and-required-verifications.php

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. In accordance with regulations issued under FERPA, the College of Charleston provides an annual notification to our enrolled students of their rights under FERPA; as well as an explanation of the exceptions under FERPA that allow the College to disclose information from the student’s education record without consent.

The Office of the Registrar is currently processing course changes from Academic Departments in response to Fall 2020 Covid-19 planning.  You may notice changes in your course schedule or in the instruction modality for some of your courses.   As we get closer to the start of classes on August 25th, check your schedule regularly. Students have the ability to make changes to their schedule through the end of the drop/add period. If you have questions, check with your academic advisor.

This is a very popular question!  Thanks for asking it!  The Office of the Registrar cannot override or register students into courses.  Course enrollment is maintained by the academic departments.  Only a Department within a School can grant capacity or pre-requisite overrides.  Keep in mind, not all Departments grant overrides.  Each Department sets their own criteria for review and approval of overrides.

Registration Reminder
This is a reminder that course registration will be open to the campus at 8:00 am (EST) on Saturday, August 8, 2020.  Helpful information regarding the registration process can be found on the Help & Training tab in MyCharleston on the Office of the Registrar Student Resources channel.
Make sure you take some time to review your registration status prior to this date.  Registration status can be found on the Registration Tools channel on the Academic Services tab of MyCharleston.  If you have a registration hold on your account, you will not be able to register for courses until this hold is cleared by the department who placed the hold.  For more information on registration holds, please visit Registration Holds and Required Verifications.
If You Have Already Applied to Graduate
Students who have already applied to graduate will not be eligible to register for courses or change registration for previously registered courses until they submit a Graduation Update form.  If you need to extend your expected graduation term, please visit the Graduate Update webpage for more information.
If You are an Incoming Student Who Has Not Attended Your Orientation Session Yet
Incoming students who have not yet completed their Orientation session will register for courses on their assigned date.  Students who have questions regarding Orientation should contact orientat@cofc.edu.

Registration is currently closed due to New Student Orientation. All students will be able to make adjustments to their fall schedule from 8:00 am (EST) August 8, 2020 through August 31, 2020 or the end of the drop/add period. Students who need assistance earlier should consult with the department chair in their major or contact the department offering the course.
