The groups of scenes that I chose to show was the talk of Auma’s college colleague about the meeting of Barack with the rest of the family in Kenya. Auma did not know her brother and the formal meeting between the two happened when she went to the US for the first time. Auma was apprehensive but Barack was very interested in meeting with the rest of the family that he had been cut off from. Bringing him back to Kenya, Barack was incredibly interested in seeing and connecting with everyone he would call family even though he did not know who they were, even saying while sitting on the grass with a woman, “Auma, how is this woman related to us?” Barack’s experience with his new found family shows how the family bonds can spread across borders and having that connection with where one came from is incredibly powerful. Auma’s journey to visit with Barack is mirrored by his journey coming to Kenya to meet his family members. What is viewed by bystanders of the events within these scenes is the similarities in experiences that is mentioned above. It is obvious that both Auma and Barack have much of their father in them and their personalities from the events of raising them show this.
