On Friday, April 4, 2014, more than thirty students representing four majors and several high school seniors presented their research to peers, colleagues, students and community members as part of the fourth annual William V. Moore Student Research Conference.   There were seven student panels held in the Stern Student Center between 10:00 am and 12:45 pm.

The panels include: international, domestic, Southern and gender politics; with papers on topics from the Hispanics in the South to energy security; from female Christian characters on television to firearms; from famine and bread riots to McCarthyism; from constitution making in Tanzania to ecotourism in Cambodia to same-sex marriage in the US.. All panels were moderated by political science faculty and are open to anyone interested.

The conference closed with a luncheon where participants were recognized and best paper awards were presented.  The keynote speach at the luncheon was delivered by Chris Jankowski, a College of Charleston alumnus and Republican strategist who recently served as the President of the Republican State Leadership Committee in Washington, D.C.

“I am more impressed by what has stayed the same about the Moore conference rather than what has changed. Every year participating speakers, faculty, and the friends and family members of the presenters come away so impressed by our students work and they genuinely enjoy the day.”  says Political Science Professor Philip H. Jos who is helping organize this year’s conference.

The Department of Political Science is very excited about this year’s conference and grateful to the donors who have helped support it.
