When applying for the Gilman Scholarship, there are a number of valuable resources available to you. Please use the resources included below to familiarize yourself with the application, evaluation criteria, and helpful tips. NCA’s Guide to the Gilman essays: This resource provides an in-depth explanation of each Gilman essay prompt and the selection criteria that readers use when reviewing applications. It also provides guidance on what information to include in each essay–this resource is a “don’t miss!”
Unofficial Transcript: The Gilman application asks for a PDF copy of your unofficial transcript. Follow the instructions here to download your unofficial transcript. Screenshots of your unofficial transcript will not work. *If you transferred to CofC from another institution or received a degree elsewhere before attending CofC (e.g. associate’s degree), be sure to obtain a copy of your unofficial transcript from that institution, too.*
CIE’s Gilman Plus (new!)
Students who submit both a Gilman application and a CIE General Scholarship application will automatically be considered for CIE’s Gilman Plus Scholarship ($500). Students will be considered for Gilman Plus regardless of whether they receive the Gilman Scholarship. No additional application is necessary for CIE’s Gilman Plus beyond the Gilman and CIE General applications.

Submit a CIE General application by October 5th at 11:59 pm EST
Submit a Gilman application by October 10th at 11:59 pm PST
Summer 2025 programs:
Submit a Gilman application by October 10th at 11:59 pm PST
Submit a CIE General application in February 2025
Fall 2025 programs:
Submit a Gilman application by October 10th at 11:59 pm PST
Submit a CIE General application in April 2025
