Theseus is known to be one of the greatest Greek heroes in ancient Athenian history, as said by John N Davie. His accomplishments range from bringing fame to Athens to fighting off highwaymen and even killing the minotaur. Although strength may play a huge part in a hero, Theseus also displayed an important aspect that everyone should strive to have: compassion. Theseus had a generous and giving soul as he tried to always help people who had no ability to help themselves (Davie 25-34). He helped people who faced oppression and provided sanctuaries for those in need (Davie 25-34). With this trait, he was able to create democracy which created a new era for society. Everyone now had a voice and were able to express that without being punished. Theseus was able to bring society together and save everyone from wrongdoers and did so by his own free will. He started as a king and ended as a hero because of all his achievements for the greater good.

Theseus was the mythical King and founder hero of Athens and his role in history throughout mythology has provided material for fiction throughout the ages. Some called it a major cultural transition, like the making of new Olympians in Hercules. Because Theseus was such an accomplished hero, and he heled a group of people out as a whole, this inspires people today to help other people and follow in Theseus footsteps. He inspires people today to become generous and good like he was when he cleared the path to Athens and killed the Minotaur to help the people of Crete.

My group got in touch with Paul Walker, who is the founder of Theseus LLC, which is a company based in Phoenix, Arizona, that works to combat climate change. We started the interview by posing the question that drew us to interview him in the first place.

….

Mythology has played a huge role in society in many aspects ranging from movies to books to even architectural structures. Ralf Von Den Hoff says that a great thing about myths is that stories aren’t set and stone. They have been retold over thousands of years which has created a variety of ways that each story can be told. People are able to interpret myths in different ways in order for them to be enjoyable. Not only are myths entertaining but they are able to give lessons to people on how to be courageous or noble. Myths are a great way to bring people together because they’re well known and continuously draw the attention of others.

We then wanted to know where Paul’s first interest in mythology took place.

….

Like W. den Boer exclaims, one of many acts that Theseus triumphed in was in Crete. Here, Theseus slaughtered the minotaur that took the lives of many as a “sacrifice.” With doing so, Theseus became a symbol of victory for Athens. Along with victory, came loss to as Theseus lost his father yet became king simultaneously. This huge triumph should not overshadow the several other acts that he also was a part of like abolishing town councils and organizing Athens as a country. He created an annual celebration called the Unification of Attica to honor his name and keep his memory alive for years to come. He was so well liked that even Aristotle and Thucydides spoke about Theseus with the utmost respect.

With Paul we wanted to hear more about his company and if he really felt his company was doing heroic acts for people, like Theseus did.

….

It is obvious Paul is very inspired and motivated by the work his company does to try to make the world a better place by fighting climate change. Similarly to how Theseus tried to make the world a better place for the people of Greece. We concluded our interview by asking Paul if he had any last comments for the listeners, much like a hero would give a heroic speech.

….

Theseus may be one of the most known heroes of all time but it’s well deserved. He was able to help so many people throughout his lifetime which brought to him his heroic title. He slayed one of the greatest villains in Athenian history and brought justice to civilization. He set the stage for future generations with the creation of democracy. Like Theseus wished for, Paul Walker was able to keep the noble memory ongoing. Theseus LLC fights for justice just as Theseus did and fights to help people that aren’t able to help themselves. It’s obvious that Theseus’ myth had an effect on society and Paul Walker’s company is living proof.
