Latin/American Folk Fusion: John and Carmen Chasteen
Johnny Cash meets Violeta Parra? There’s no simple way to describe the music of John and Carmen Chasteen—an eclectic mix of North and South American folk styles, rhythmically up-beat, with strong vocal harmonies and lyrics in both English and Spanish. Some songs are old standards from Carmen’s native Colombia; some sound like down-home North Carolina, and some speak to current political issues, such as immigration.
