Revised Final Project: The Harlem Renaissance

For my revised project proposal, I plan to make an in depth timeline of Harlem Renaissance poetry and art forms. I still plan to include on this timeline the historical context of the movement. I will do through highlighting many of key moments of African American political, social, and artistic historical events outside of the poetry. However, my main focus will be on the poetry. With this I will tie in the events that led to much of the chosen subject matter and even the poetic forms that were utilized during the movement. I will also talk of events that happened before the movement that are noticeable influences.

For, this project my research will have to be focused on specific events pertaining to early African American events. However, I will try my best not to limit it to only ones that pertain to directly to the movement but also the events that span all cultures. Examples of this are the Great Depression and WWI. I also thought it would be interested to research events of this scale as well as those pertaining to the Harlem Renaissance through articles in black periodicals like The Crisis and Opportunity.

One Response to Revised Final Project: The Harlem Renaissance

I like how the project is coming together. Will you use TIKI-TOKI or another platform? Have you experimented with the platform yet?

The works in your bibliography seem quite specific. I would add some books from the library catalog on the harlem renaissance and African American history in the 20th-century. I think I have the Cambridge Companion to the Harlem Renaissance in my office; I’ll share it with you when we meet later this week. Those broader reference works / histories will be important given the genre of your presentation (the timeline).

TIKI-TOKI offers multimedia presentation–videos, sound, images–so the final product should be very dynamic!
