VBS 2013 for us geeks
0August 1, 2013 by Garrett Mitchener
Dear Diego,
I got your letter and drawing– thank you very much for sending it!
I thought I should tell you about vacation Bible school (VBS). Every year, my church invites families from the neighborhood to come by in the evenings. We have activities for children, like songs, art projects, Bible lessons, and science lessons. One evening we set up an inflatable water slide for them to play on. We serve dinner. We also have a Bible lesson for any adults that want to stay.
This year, our VBS theme was “Galactic Blast”. We decorated our fellowship hall with pictures of planets, stars, and space travel. We made toy control panels out of cardboard and buttons. One button was made from a big red lid, and someone wrote “Danger! Do not touch!” on it. But the children knew it was a toy and loved to push it just to be silly! (That reminds me of Genesis 3)
I helped by handing out name tags and helping children find their adult leaders. I like Star Trek, so I thought it would be fun to make a replica of Spock’s uniform to wear at VBS. Have you ever heard of Star Trek? I’ll write a you another letter about it just in case you haven’t.
The uniform is plain black pants, and a blue shirt with ribbons at the cuffs and an emblem on the chest. I’ve attached a picture of me sitting at the table handing out name tags. The woman sitting next to me is Beth. She introduced me to Compassion and gave me your name. The blonde woman at the very edge of the picture is Lauren. You can only see her arm. She’s wearing a red Star Trek uniform. She is our director of Christian education. She’s in charge of VBS.
