Throughout the film some of the characters get titles and/or special scene that shows who they are or what they are. The first special scene would be when Hugo Stiglitz is introduce. We the audience do not know who Hugo Stiglitz is but the film give a one minute narration of who Hugo Stiglitz is and what he portrayed to be. Later on the film we are then in Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s number 2. Unlike Hugo Stglitz Dr. Goebbels did not get a special scene of why he is Hitler’s number 2 instead one of the character give a short introduction of who he is. I don’t really see anything special about this character to considered Hitler’s number 2. They way he is portrayed seems bland for a high ranking Nazi official/officer there is no sense of intimidation when he introduced. Unlike when we were introduced to Hans Landa with his clam and cool demeanor he gives a sense of intimidation. There many other character throughout the film that are given titles but they don’t get a special shot or introduction scene. Sgt. Donny “The Bear Jew” Donowitz does shows his ferocity of a bear when he first introduced. Hans Landa explains why he is caused “The Jew Hunter”, it is job he is tasked to do so but seems more like a detective then a Nazi officer. These titles that are given to these character should be and idea of a first impression of what the character is going to be most of these characters follow their title in a way I did not see coming

Throughout the film performances are being put on by various characters to ensure the success of operation kino. Due to the German speaking bastards being caught, these Americans have to portray Italians in order to get into the premiere of the film. This scene built up all the tension from before because the cover that was in place was once very believable and is now at the hands of unqualified Americans. This meme pokes fun at not only the circumstances that the bastards are in but the fact that Americans are really bad at speaking other languages without using the American alphabet and accent. You can tell with how Col Landa is mocking their accents in this scene when he makes them repeat their name several times egging them on to put everything they have into it. Col Landa himself shows that he speaks Italian which shows the audience not only how clever he is as a man but how screwed the bastards are and the eventual death that occurs with Bridget.
We Don’t Wear Our Uniforms Anymore, Right?
While the Nazis were able to take off their physical uniforms, they were not able to take off their metaphorical uniforms. This meme references how after the fall of the Third Reich, the majority of the Nazis were simply able to take their uniforms off and continue with their lives, but it was not as easy for the survivors of the Third Reich to move on from the atrocities that they had suffered or forgive the sins against them committed by the Nazis. After World War Two, many countries thought that the process of Denazification was enough to absolve the majority of former Nazis of their sins. However, it was not enough for the survivors, because it did not matter if the Nazis no longer wore their physical uniforms, they still wore their metaphorical uniforms of the sins they committed.
No Hiding Now
For this meme, I chose to highlight a scene that stood out to me in the film Inglorious Bastards. In this meme, you can see two members from the “Bastards” looking down at a nazi after they just engraved a swastika onto his forehead. Through a Holocaust class I took a few years back, I know that once the Holocaust was over, many nazi’s fled the area and adopted new identities. They did so to steer clear of getting convicted of any crimes they may have committed during the war against Jews and other minorities. That’s why the action the Bastards took regarding engraving a swastika onto the forehead speaks volumes. They did so to show the nazi’s that this horrible identity they have taken on will follow them the rest of their lives by providing society with an easy visual that identifies who they are and what they have done. I also found it clever how, in the top picture of the meme, they filmed it to make it look like the Bastards were much larger than the nazi and how they were looking down at him.
