Lampedusa, European Migrant crisis

For blog post #8, I decided to choose and repost from blog assignment #5. The task assigned was to take a still from inglorious bastards and create an original meme. Although because it is the 8th week of the semester I thought I would choose to make a meme from fire at sea BY Gianfranco Rosi rather than doing one from inglorious bastards again. The reason I chose this scene and to use the phrases I did in my meme for a few reasons. In the movie Fire at Sea the first narrative conveys a descriptive picture of Samuel’s everyday life. He builds slingshots plays with his slingshot, He questions his father about his pictures of his fishing boat and spends time with his friend. This doesn’t seem like much but this is Samuel’s life as it should be simple and dandy for a little kid and his friend. Although the migrants in the second Narrative of the film are just people without character places and you don’t know their names. They board rescue boats either dead or alive and they wear the same clothing that is so with gasoline and seawater torturing their bodies and killing them. While they’re lost crying for their loved ones, with little time for themselves they pray and play soccer. This is a description of their life. A Lot different from Samuel’s, it’s ironic though because of how close in proximity this is happening to Samuel.
