LCWA Summer Study Abroad Scholarship and Award Recipients

We would like to thank everyone for encouraging our students to apply to the scholarships and awards that run through the LCWA Dean’s Office. The demand for study abroad is returning with a vengeance and thanks to your guidance LCWA was able to award $64,200 in scholarships and awards for summer international related travel just at the Dean’s level. This amount does not include the $95,000 for our International Scholars summer trips that are finally back after a two year pandemic induced hiatus. This is a total of $159,200 in philanthropic funds going directly to enrich our students experience. Of course, none of this could happen without the generous student focused philanthropy we have received from our donors. We are truly grateful that through this generosity we are able to support all the students below with their summer study abroad and internship experiences. Thanks to you all for developing and implementing the programs key to international success.

Public Service Internship Award Deadline Extended

The deadline to apply to the Public Service Internship Award has been extended! Students now have until April 15th to apply for the award.

The Public Service Internship Award is to support increasing student interest and participation in public service, especially foreign service and/or globally focused civil service internships. These experiences give students a coveted and highly valuable inside look at service and diplomacy in action and reveal the wide range of careers associated with public service. These experiences are often unpaid and living and travel is costly.

The awards will be given to students who secure experiential learning opportunities during summer or semester abroad programs. Recipients will be able to apply their work experience to myriad endeavors and will gain a distinguished advantage compared to their peers because of their direct experience working with global issues.

Learn more about the award and apply on the LCWA Student Awards & Scholarship website.

German-American Business Summit is going Virtual

Excerpt from the College TODAY, “Since the last German-American Business Summit (GABS) in February of 2020 a lot has happened at the College of Charleston, and we’re not just talking about the pandemic. Last fall, the College began offering its first-ever major in engineering – systems engineering – with some of the 200-plus German companies in the Palmetto state helping to design the curriculum.

Not surprisingly, those two topics will be front and center at the fifth annual conference on Feb. 4, 2021, held virtually from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. CofC’s German programthe School of Languages Cultures, and World Affairsthe Career Center; and the School of Business will put on the summit in partnership with The Citadel and Trident Technical College.

“This year we are pivoting to a virtual event and are looking forward to the chance to cast a wider net in terms of audience participants, as well as panelists, who will join us from locations throughout the U.S. and in Germany,” says Morgan Koerner, the chair of the Department of German and Russian Studies who founded the event.”
