The Charleston Literary Festival will take place from November 4th through 13th, and will feature renowned authors, including Geraldine Brooks, Frans de Waal, Eddie Glaude Jr., Tiya Miles, Jean Hanff Korelitz, Patrick Radden Keefe, Renee Dudley, Elizabeth Williamson, and many more.

Honors Engaged is looking for Project Mentors

With more community partners than ever, Honors Engaged is expanding our student leadership team!

The opportunity: As a project mentor, you will lead and mentor FYE students, and you will develop academically and professionally through your own research in HONS 398.

  • New community partners include Charleston Climate Coalition, Cuisine Rescue; My Sister’s House; YWCA’s Y Girls Code; Our Lady of Mercy’s Neighborhood House; Trident Literacy Association; Charles’ House; Carolina Youth Development Center; Charleston Area Justice Ministry; Office of Student Wellness and Wellbeing; Lowcountry Local First.
  • Returning community partners include The Green Heart Project; Center for Sustainable Development; Communities in Schools; Reading Partners; Kids on Point; The Lonon Foundation; Metanoia

Requirements: To be a project mentor, you must enroll in HONS 398 and be able to meet with the leadership team at one of the following times:

  • Wednesdays, 11-11:50am
  • Wednesdays, 12-12:50pm
  • Fridays, 12-12:50pm.

You must also be able to attend the Project Mentor Retreat on Saturday, September 10th from 9am-2pm.

Great fit for: Students looking to fulfill their Honors Immersed requirement, give back to the Charleston community, and/or add valuable professional/research experience to their resume.

S.C. Sea Grant Consortium Summer Internship

The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium is seeking undergraduate students to conduct community-based projects that focus on community environmental and resilience needs.

The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium Community Engaged Internship Program (SCSGC-CEI) is part of the National Sea Grant Community Engaged Internship (CEI) Program.

Students will enhance their experience through participation in all CEI professional development and training opportunities, mentorship by Consortium staff, and peer discussions with other participants in CEI across the country. Interns will work with a Sea Grant Consortium staff member, and often a community member or group, to develop a summer project in their community.

Internships will last 10-12 weeks and require up to 30 hours/week.

Summer VISTA Associate Positions Available with Reading Partners

The Summer VISTA Program is a 10 weeks paid summer program designed for students interested in education, educational equity, and/or a desire to work with elementary school students.

Selected students will work with Reading Partners, a local non-profit dedicated to ensuring that all students have the literary skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond.

VISTA Associates will begin at the start of May and work Monday through Thursday 8:30 to 2:00. Associates will be compensated with a $2,569.70 living allowance as well as a $1,311.11 educational reward.

Sustainability Week 2022 is right around the corner! The Center for Sustainable Development is putting on the 2022 Sustainability Week: Sustainable Cities & Communities. Check out some of the awesome programming for the week ahead!

Monday, April 18th: Tabling & Bingo (10:00am – 1:00pm at the Sottile Clock) and Sustainable Cities Vision Walk (Stop at 1:00pm & Open all week in Maybank Hall)

Tuesday, April 19th: Tabling & Bingo (12:30pm – 3:30pm at the Sottile Clock) and Charleston Social Justice Sites Tour (4:00pm, 4:30pm, and 5:00pm at 207 Calhoun St.)

Wednesday, April 20th: Sustainable Cities Expo – Farmers Market & Free Store Pop-up (10:30am – 2:30pm), Carta Ride-A-Long (12:00pm and 1:00pm), and Sustainability Field Day (10:30am – 6:30pm)

Thursday, April 21st: An Earth Day Dialogue: Sustainability and Flourishing in the 21st Century (6:00pm – 7:00pm in the School of Science and Math Auditorium (Zoom Available))

Friday, April 22nd: CofC Instagram Takeover (@collegeofcharleston), MESSA Adopt a Highway (10:00am – 11:30am at Ye Old Fashion Ice Cream West Ashely Parking Lot), and Dining’s Farm to Table Dinner (5:30pm in Stern Garden)
