Osgood Center for International Studies Opportunities

The Osgood Center for International Studies has two opportunities available for students of all majors!

The International Studies Program is pleased to announce, together with the School of Languages, Cultures, & World Affairs that the application process for a great opportunity to learn more about global leadership and to engage in professional development in 2023 is now open.

The Osgood Center for International Studies in Washington DC has partnered with CofC to make it possible for a select number of students from the College to attend their Leadership Program in January 2023.

The Osgood Center for International Studies is also selecting candidates for a professional development program the Osgood Center is offering in the spring and summer.

The deadline for the Osgood Center Leadership Institute is November 21, 2022. The deadline for the professional development program is January 1, 2023.

MUSC Night 2022

Check out the upcoming MUSC Night!

MUSC Night is a great opportunity for anyone considering going to MUSC after graduation. There will be representatives from all 6 colleges at MUSC (College of Graduate Studies, College of Health Professions, College of Nursing, College of Dental Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and College of Medicine).

MUSC Night will take place in the School of Science and Math Building Courtyard on November 9th from 4:30 to 6:00

This is a great chance for students to get a wealth of information about the various programs at MUSC and some of the other opportunities for patient  hours.

The College Reads Program Author Event

Join The College Reads Program and Clint Smith, author of How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery, for a book discussion.

The book discussion will take place on Monday, October 24 at 7 pm. This event is completely free and open to the entire CofC community.

Although it is encouraged, students do not have to have read the College Reads Book. Free copies of How the Word is Passed are available in the Lightsey Center Lobby, Education Center Lobby, Beatty Center Lobby, Rita Hollings Science Center Lobby, and the Office of New Student Programs in the Lightsey Center Annex.

Apply for a Critical Language Scholarship and study abroad developing critical language skills

Apply today for the 2023 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program!

The CLS Program is an intensive, overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.

Selected students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying 1 of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

The CLS Program actively seeks applicants whose study of a critical language relates to their academic field of interest and future career goals. Students in diverse fields of study, including STEM fields, law, medicine, international studies, and the humanities are encouraged to apply.

The National Application Deadline is November 15th, 8pm EST.

Volunteer with an Honors Engaged Partner

The Trident Literary Association needs volunteers for their upcoming Gala.

Trident Literary Association is looking for volunteers to help with their Gala. Volunteering will include light duties such as ushering, check-ins/outs, room monitoring, and silent auction assistance!

The event will take place on  October 29, 2022, at Trident Technical College 7000 Rivers Ave North Charleston, SC 29406, from 5pm – 10pm.

Volunteers will be able to experience this exciting event with Carolyn Murray as MC, Tom Crawford as auctioneer, and keynote speaker British Robinson, a nationally known speaker and CEO of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.

Join the Cougar Refugee Alliance

Cougar Refugee Alliance is now working to recruit tutors for refugee children in the Charleston area.

Cougar Refugee Alliance works together with the local resettlement agency (Lutheran Services Carolinas) along with the College’s Taskforce on Refugee Resettlement to assist local refugees in many aspects.

Last year Cougar Refugee Alliance helped resettle over 80 Afghan refugees in the Charleston area. Cougar Refugee Alliance is continuing to receive refugees weekly from Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Ukraine.

Lonon Foundation’s Hike for Mike.

Check out the Lonon Foundation’s Hike for Mike event! Hike for Mike has all day fun, including a memorial hike, live music, local food, and more!

Hike for Mike will take place on October 1st from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at Palmetto Island County Park.
