Honors 282: Community-Based Research: A Case Study in Honduras
January 9 –  February 27
Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:00pm-4:45pm

Alternative Break in Tegucigalpa and La Ceiba, Honduras
March 3 – March 9

Course Goals:

  • Sociopolitical climate in Honduras
  • Concerns about poverty inHonduras
  • Work of LAMB, an NGO inHonduras, to address the needs of children and families in the most impoverished areas ofTegucigalpa,Honduras
  • Work of Habitat for Humanity in LaCeiba,Honduras
  • The role of NGOs in resolving critical needs in a community
  • Asset-Based Community Development
  • Strategies for consulting with NGOs to address critical needs in a community
  • Project Development and Management to address need identified in partnership with LAMB
  • Teamwork and leadership skill development

Course Requirements:

  • Attendance and Participation  (15%)
  • Assigned Readings and Reflective Essays (15%)
    • Blogs due by Sunday at 5pm
    • Blog comment(s) due by Tuesday at 5pm
  • Group Research Project Report and Oral Presentation (35%) – Due February 11th
  • Group Project Proposal and Oral Presentation (35%)
