Add Your CofC Employee Email to Your Smart Phone

In today’s world, it’s more important than ever to stay in touch. Part of staying in touch means having access to your email at all times.

Here are some things to you need to know about setting up your CofC employee email account on your smart phone:

DROID

  • Your device must be protected with a passcode. The passcode should be at least 4 digits that are non-repeating and non-sequential. Some phones refer to this feature as a pin or screen lock.
  • Specific instructions for setting up your email on Droid devices vary, but here are the general settings you may be prompted for:
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Domain: cougars
    • Username: enter your entire email address; some phones require entering a backslash (\) in front of the email address
    • Password: your own email password

IPAD/IPHONE

  • You must have a passcode set on your device in order to add your CofC email. To set the passcode —
    • Go to Settings > Passcode. The Passcode should be at least 4 digits that are non-repeating and non-sequential.
  • There is a new server setting, outlook.office365.com, and the device must be reconfigured after our email migration, completed in August 2016. If you still do not receive email after updating the server setting on your account, try removing the account and adding it back again:
    • Remove the account –
      • Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > Choose the account > Scroll down to the bottom and click the Delete Account option.
    • After the account is removed, force a restart on the device –
      • Locate both the home button and the sleep/wake button. The home button is on the face of the phone, is circular, and indented. The sleep/wake button is on the edge of the device, usually on the top right corner (though the location may vary depending on the model). Pressing the sleep/wake button will make the screen go black. Once you have located both of these buttons, press and hold them down together for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple appear on the screen. Once you see the Apple, you know you have successfully performed a force restart.
    • After you have forced a restart on the device, add the account back again –
      • Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, & Calendars > Choose the Exchange option. Enter your email address and password as prompted. The server is outlook.office365.com, and the domain is cougars. If you are prompted for username, put in your entire email address. Follow the prompts (clicking Next in the upper right corner) until you get to Save.
    • After you Save the account, you should be able to access the Mail app on your device to view your email.
