The College has successfully migrated several pilot groups of faculty and staff Exchange mailboxes from on-premise servers to the cloud based Exchange Online environment and this month we will migrate the remaining faculty and staff mailboxes to Exchange Online.
About the Migration
Throughout July, we will continue to migrate the remainder of the mailboxes in weekly groups. Before your account is migrated, you will be notified by email. At this time there is nothing that you need to do. You can continue using Outlook while the migration proceeds. When your migration is complete, you will be notified again. Your mail client(s) should autodiscover the new mail server and continue to function normally. Outlook will notify you with a pop up when the migration is completed, and you will just need to close Outlook and reopen again. You will not lose any work in process when you receive the pop-up, it will be saved to your drafts folder.
If you are configuring your device after your account has been migrated to Office 365, first try to shut down your device and see if it auto-discovers the new server on restart. If not, you will need to delete your account settings and set them up again using your College credentials.
If you are configuring your device settings for the first time (as with a new account or new device) please follow the appropriate instructions for your device and use your College credentials.
Accessing Exchange Online
You can continue to access your email through your desktop client as well as mobile devices. You can also access your email through https://portal.office.com or https://outlook.office365.com. Office 365 is designed to work with the current version of the Safari, Chrome, and Firefox browsers; the latest version of the Microsoft Edge browser, and the current or immediately previous version of Internet Explorer. As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft implemented changes across Office 365 workloads, which resulted in a significantly diminished experience for Office 365 users on Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 9. IE8 and IE9 are not recommended.
If you attempt to access your email through Outlook Web Access (owa.cofc.edu), you will be prompted use a different link that takes you to the same place as https://portal.office.com.
What Version of Outlook?
Office 365 works best with the latest version of Microsoft Office. Older versions may have a degraded experience. To upgrade to the latest version, please contact Helpdesk helpdesk@cofc.edu or 953-3375 Option #3.
If you have any questions or need further assistance please contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@cofc.edu or 953-3375 Option #3.
