Your Identification for Voting

Planning to vote next Tuesday? We hope so!

Planning to use your College of Charleston student ID as your form of identification? If you are, you may want to rethink your plan.

With each state having different guidelines, you may have gotten confused about what would (and would not) be accepted for identification before you vote. Luckily, Mike Joba, recently referred us to a map that breaks it down state-by-state. You can see the map here: http://www.headcount.org/student-voter-id-requirements/

The state of South Carolina does not accept college ID cards as a form of identification. They do, however, accept the following:

  • South Carolina driver’s license or non-driver’s ID card issued by the DMV showing your current address, or
  • A voter registration card.
  • U.S. passport;
  • U.S. military photo ID; or
  • South Carolina voter registration card with photo.
  • A certified copy of the elector’s birth certificate;
  • A valid Social Security card;
  • A Certified naturalization documentation;
  • A certified copy of court records showing adoption or name change;
  • A valid Medicaid card, Medicare card, or an Electronic Benefits Transfer Card (EBT).

Following our blog from somewhere other than South Carolina? Check out your requirements by selecting your state on this interactive map: http://headcount.org/voter-id-requirements/
