This fall, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at the College of Charleston welcomed two passionate and dedicated individuals to their leadership team. The recent elections have brought exciting new voices into the fold with Rafael Guerra and Klaudia Rushi stepping into pivotal roles. Rafael Guerra, a first-year Master of Public Administration student, was elected Secretary, while Klaudia Rushi, an MBA candidate, will serve as Vice President. Both bring impressive backgrounds, a commitment to service, and a shared vision of making the graduate student experience as impactful and inclusive as possible.
Meet Rafael Guerra, GSA Secretary
Rafael Guerra is no stranger to leadership. A graduate of Presbyterian College with a degree in Political Science and History, Rafael’s tenure as Student Body President demonstrated his ability to listen, advocate, and make a difference. Now, as a member of the Master of Public Administration program at the College of Charleston, he is eager to continue his journey in student leadership.
In his own words, Rafael shared:
“I strive to prioritize student needs by providing an active listening ear and communicating those needs to the institution, effectively changing the school for the better. Though this is my first year at the College of Charleston, I will endeavor to constantly and consistently represent the interests of our students and serve diligently as your secretary.”
Rafael’s experience and determination will be vital in ensuring that the GSA remains a strong advocate for graduate students across all programs, helping to create a supportive community where every voice is heard.
Introducing Klaudia Rushi, GSA Vice President
Klaudia Rushi brings both her leadership skills and her dedication to fostering community into her new role as GSA Vice President. An MBA student in the School of Business, Klaudia has long been driven by a passion for leadership. Her experience as a two-year captain of her undergraduate women’s soccer team taught her valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and leading by example. Today, she continues to apply those skills to her involvement in philanthropy and sports-related student groups.
In her statement to fellow students, Klaudia emphasized her focus on inclusion and support:
“I want to be a voice for my fellow classmates. Our graduate school programs are more than just a stepping stone in our careers; we are a community of driven individuals with unique goals. As your Executive Vice President, I will work tirelessly to ensure that your voices are heard and that our collective experiences are fulfilling.”
Her enthusiasm and vision for creating a vibrant, inclusive, and empowered graduate student body will undoubtedly inspire those around her.
Looking Ahead
With Rafael and Klaudia at the helm, the GSA is poised for an exciting year of growth and student engagement. They are both committed to listening to the needs of their fellow students and fostering an environment where everyone feels supported.
