Meet Ken Marolda, a recent candidate for the city council! He graduated from The College of Charleston in 2019 with a master’s degree in Community Policy, Planning, and Design. Let’s learn a little more about him:
Ken is basically a superhero. In addition to his graduate degree at CofC, he has a Property Manager In-Charge (PMIC) license in SC and is a Public Notary. He has professional memberships at numerous organizations including the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and Preservation Society of Charleston. Ken also has an incredible amount of civic experience. He has been recognized in the Charleston Region Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” in 2023 and has co-founded two nonprofits! When he isn’t saving the world, Ken runs a family-owned local property management firm called Marolda Enterprises. We are so fortunate to have his leadership in our community!

Serving the community led Ken to run for city council representing District 9 in the West Ashley area. He was even endorsed by the Charleston City Paper in a published article! His political position focuses on sustainable development and balancing healthy growth with quality of life:
- Plan West Ashley – redevelopment initiative that supports both developers and the community
- Dutch Dialogues Plan – following guidelines to mitigate stormwater and flooding risks
- Intersection Improvements – zoning and city design that reduces traffic congestion while remaining safe and respectful of neighbors
