Race and Roast, Exercise and Eat

In Charleston, we run a lot of races. We also eat a lot of oysters. With that in mind, it only seems appropriate that we now have a Race & Roast that combines two of our favorite things. Hosted by the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy and presented by eGroup Technology Solutions for Serious Competitors, the 2nd Annual Race & Roast is scheduled for Sunday, February 24th at 12:30pm (race) and 1:00pm (run). Not a runner? Not a problem – register to volunteer.

The race takes place at Oakland Plantation. A 5K trail travels through a 132-acre forest and is mostly hard packed dirt or road. You’ll finish the race down an avenue of oaks that leads (like many avenues of oaks) to the plantation. Walkers are invited to join in the events.

Registration includes admission to the oyster roast, a race t-shirt, and a commemorative event pint glass for adults. In addition, proceeds will benefit conservation efforts in the Lowcountry.

From 1-4pm, you can enjoy local oysters, hot dogs, chili (meat and veggie) and coleslaw. Beverages will include soft drinks, water, wine and beer (for those 21 and older, of course). Entertainment for the roast will focus on live music and kid-friendly activities.

You can visit the website for details if you are interested in registering as a runner or a volunteer. The race will only host 350 participants and tickets are discounted through February 10th, so register early.
