Then take a moment today (Thursday, October 11th) to attend Dr. Rita Barnard’s lecture, “(Post)Apartheid Narrative, Modernism, Temporality” at 7:00pm. As a part of the Department of English’s Visiting Scholars Series, Dr. Barnard will be speaking in Arnold Hall (first floor of the Jewish Studies building at 96 Wentworth).

Originally, Dr. Barnard was a South African-born scholar who focused on American literature. Now, she is an American-based scholar who focuses on South African literature. Her work stretches across nations and disciplines. Currently, she is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Barnard’s works include the monographs: The Great Depression and the Culture of Abundance: Kenneth Fearing, Nathanael West, and Mass Culture in the 1930s and Apartheid and Beyond: South African Writers and the Politics of Place.

The Department of English invites faculty, staff and the general public to attend this free lecture.
