Since I was little, my family and I have been coming to the Charleston area for our summer vacations. I fell in love with the area immediately, and since I was old enough to understand humor and satire, I have loved all books related to southern culture, and Charleston specifically. Dorothea Benton Frank’s books rank pretty high on my “list of books to read again.” It is quite special that so many authors embrace this area and use it as an inspiration for their work. It is even more unique that so many women in this area have been so successful. This Sunday, September 18, an annual book signing will allow you to meet some contemporary Southern female authors. It will be held at the Citadel Alumni House at 69 Hagood Ave, from 2:00 -5:00 p.m. Admission is $10, and all proceeds benefit the award-winning Center for Women, South Carolina’s only comprehensive women’s development center.
At this event, you will have the chance to mingle with more than 30 local authors, including Dorothea Benton Frank, 
Mary Alice Monroe, Holly Herrick, Carolyn Evans, Marjory Wentworth, Terry Ward Tucker, Mary Edna Fraser, Nathalie Dupree, and our very own Dean of the Graduate School, Amy McCandless. You will have the opportunity to listen to live readings, and to enjoy “high tea.” Feel free to bring your own book to be signed, or chose one to purchase at the event! Advance tickets are available for a suggested donation of $10! The first 100 to donate get a FREE copy of the Julie Dash novel Daughter’s of the Dust. Author Dash will be at the event to sign books. You are encouraged to read the book, and then pass it on to a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker.
