Water sports are seemingly growing in popularity, yet for those of us without boats or who don’t have friends with boats, we are really missing out! However, on the last Saturday of every month, Lowcountry residents have the chance to either watch or attempt a water sport at Carolina Watersports’ WakeFest. Held at Trophy Lake on Johns Island from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the festival is not a competition, so people of all skill levels should feel comfortable participating. Riders can try different types of water sports, including skiing, wakeboarding and kneeboarding. Professional riders will be on the lake performing demonstrations throughout the day, but everyone is encouraged to get out on the water, even if it’s something they’ve never done.
Admission is free, and parking is $5 a carload. Three rides cost $40, or $35 if bought in advance. Call ahead and reserve a spot to ride! They can only take a maximum of 20 riders, and spots fill up fast. The first rider will hit the water at 11:00 a.m., and a local Charleston band will play from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m. Savory will be catering the event, and they will have alcoholic beverages to sell to those of age. So, grab your family, friends, and dogs (on leashes) and enjoy a day of fun water activities while listening to a local Charleston band!
