Sure, you’re wrapping up those major papers, packing your bags for Thanksgiving, and prepping for exams, but who says you can’t have a little fun this weekend too? Here are a couple of grad school events that you shouldn’t miss:
The Graduate Student Association is sponsoring the King Street Krawl, a pub crawl event that is going to meander its way down King Street on Friday evening. The event starts at 5:30 PM on upper King Street at Charleston Beer Works, and will eventually end up at W.O.K. at 10:30. You can join the GSA for one or all of the bars, and the purchase of a $5 t-shirt will entitle you to drink and food specials at all of the establishments. Be sure to bring your valid ID for admission to each establishment. For more information, visit the King Street Krawl event page on Facebook.
The Graduate Open Alliance is meeting on Sunday. It’s the official grad student advocacy organization for diversity and equal treatment, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Since its founding in May, the organization has provided input on the College’s new nondiscrimination policy, has become a contact for job opportunities with the Office of Civil Rights of the US Department of Justice, and marched in Charleston’s first pride parade. They’re planning their next event, a discussion panel on the state of politics in South Carolina and what it means for the LGBTQ community. Come on Sunday to provide your thoughts and input on planning what is sure to be a landmark event for the College. The meeting starts at 6:30 PM in Stern Center 201.
