Poetry Readings Commemorating WWI Centennial

Faculty and staff volunteers will read one or two WWI-related poems each Thursday at 12:10 throughout the school year. Poems this month are by Wilfred Owen (9/4 and 9/25), Isaac Rosenberg (9/11), Alice Dunbar-Nelson (9/18). “Spirit of the Arts,” Cougar Mall.

Yaakov Israel Artist Talk

The Halsey Institute will present an Artist Talk by Yaakov Israel about the current exhibition of his photography entitled “The Quest for the Man on the White Donkey.” This collection of 42 portraits and landscapes captured in Israel over 10 years is the expression of the artist’s Israeli experience of the global reality.

Traces of the Trade film screening

In Traces of the Trade, nine descendants of the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history confront their lineage and retrace their heritage from Rhode Island to Cuba to Ghana.

BB&T Market Process Speaker Series: ”The Political Consequences of Islam’s Economic Legacy”

Timur Kuran, Professor of Economics and Political Science, and Gorter Family Professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University will discuss the impact of the Middle East’s traditional institutions on poor political performance, measured by democratization and human liberties.  Tuesday, September 30th, 6pm, Wells Fargo Auditorium (Beatty 115)
