Dr. Giovanna De Luca at the 78th Venice International Film Festival

The 78th Venice International Film Festival kicked off a few days ago and will run for another week (September 1 – 11). Dr. Giovanna De Luca, Professor of Italian and Film Studies is on sabbatical leave for the 2021-2022 academic year, and she’s busy immersing herself in Italy’s dynamic and non-stop film culture. After Venice, Dr. De Luca will have little time off before she’s off to Rimini for yet another film festival (October 1-3).

The Venice Film Festival is one of the largest and most important film festivals in the world, up there with Berlin and Cannes. It is also the world’s first film festival. You can check out what films are being screened this year by clicking here. Personally, I wish I was there right now to catch the out-of-competition screening of a new Led Zeppelin documentary by Bernard MacMahon.

Let’s hope Dr. De Luca keeps us informed of her film-related travels!
