The Student Film Club Welcomes Everyone Back!

Here’s the latest news from the student Film Club President, Noah Huber:

Good afternoon fellow film lovers,

I hope everyone had a safe break and stayed healthy amidst the chaos! Welcome back to the Spring Semester of 2021 at the College of Charleston, and another amazing semester with the Film Club!

First thing’s first, if you wish to participate in club activities this semester you will be required to take The Cougar Pledge, to ensure that everyone is doing the most to ensure each other’s safety.

Tomorrow (Friday, February 5) we will be viewing Spirited Away (2001). Sign up here to attend the viewing.

The library is working on a series of short informational films related to the history of the campus, and have requested our assistance. Some students will be compensated for their time and expertise. Let me know if you are interested in helping out and I will pass along your information to John White!

The Irish and Irish American Study Abroad program have begun preparations for their Summer Study Abroad program in Dublin. This program is still a work in progress and is working under the assumption that we will be given permission to go, and that all students and faculty will be vaccinated and approved for international travel. It is important to remember that Ireland is currently in Level 5 lockdown, the highest level. How long it remains at that level remains to be seen. They remain optimistic that the program (May 30 – June 26) will continue.

Dr. Bruns, who is our club advisor, will be teaching a course in Irish cinema, ENGL 390: Ireland and the Irish Imagination in Cinema. For those of you who are minoring in Film Studies, this course will count toward your Film Studies minor, even if you’ve already taken ENGL 390 (students can take ENGL 390 for up to 6 credits). The prerequisite for ENGL 390, ENGL 212: Cinema: History & Criticism, will be waived for all enrolled who have not yet taken it. Dublin is a beautiful city with a rich history and it is a great opportunity for everyone!

For more information on the trip, go here.

The deadline to apply for the trip is March 31st, go here to apply. If you know anyone interested in Study Abroad please pass along this information.

If you have any questions about the trip, contact Dr. Bruns (brunsj@cofc.edu) or Dr Kelly (kellyj@cofc.edu).

If you are interested in working on production of our student film, email me and I will contact you with more information about it when we figure out all the details.
