We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Irina Erman (PhD, Stanford University) to the College of Charleston. As an Assistant Professor of Russian Literature & Culture, Dr. Erman will offering courses on Russian cinema. This fall, she will be teaching LTRS 270: Studies in Russian Film. The course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:05-4:20 in the JC Long building, room 402A. If you need to satisfy the 2nd cluster requirement for the FMST minor, or if you have an interest in Russian cinema (or both!), consider taking Dr. Erman’s course. Here is a brief course description: “This course aims to introduce students to the recent developments and innovations in Russian cinema since the collapse of the Soviet Union until the present day. We will consider major trends in contemporary Russian film, while also taking stock of Russia’s rich cinematic legacy and its contributions to world cinema culture. Our selection of films will be analyzed in the context of the major social, political and economic changes that have taken place in Russia over the past decades. We will enhance our discussions with cultural materials, relevant readings and student presentations.”
Note: This course is open to all students with an interest in film and/or Russian culture. No previous knowledge in the area is expected or required.
