Announcing “Silencing Homer – The Iliad and The Odyssey in Early Cinema,” Oct. 15

The Archaeological Institute of America, along with the Art History and Classics Departments, the Historic Preservation and Community Planning and Archaeology Programs, will be screening three silent films: La Caduta di Troia (dir. Luigi Romano Borgnetto and Giovanni Pastrone, 1911), L’ile de Calypso (dir. George Méliès, 1905), and L’Odissea (dir. Francesco Bertolini, Giuseppe de Liguoro, and Adolfo Padovan, 1911). These early examples of films d’art, each adaptations of the work of Homer, will be screened in Sottile Theater on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00pm. The films will also have live musical accompaniment by Corey Campbell. The screening is free and open to the public.
