Daniel Shaw, Professor of Philosphy and editor of the journal Film and Philosophy to visit College
Daniel Shaw, Professor of Philosophy at Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania, will be giving a talk at the College of Charleston Thursday, January 16, at 3:15 in ECTR 118. His talk, entitled “Empathy for the Devil: Mirror Neurons & the Appeal of Horror,” will address our culture’s fascination with the monstrous, including the most charming of all monsters, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (the genius serial killer from the Thomas Harris novels). Dr. Shaw is editor of the journal Film and Philosophy (published by the Society for the Philosophical Study of Contemporary Visual Arts) which offers some of the most essential essays on the intersection of philosophy and film & media. Dr. Shaw is also author of the book Film and Philosophy: Taking Movies Seriously (Wallflower Press, 2008).
